
Mary Hoban resides in Scranton with her husband, son, and youngest daughter. Her oldest daughter lives in Baltimore. Mary earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education and Master of Science in Counseling from Marywood University. Prior to joining the staff of Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Mary was employed as an academic and personal counselor at Marywood University for sixteen (16) years.
As Director of Psychosocial Services, Mary works closely with the staff to facilitate the patient, the patient's family members/caregivers as they all make the transition into hospice care.
As Coordinator of Volunteers, Mary is responsible for the recruitment, training and retention of hospice volunteers.
As Bereavement Counselor, Mary assists with the scheduled monthly bereavement support groups, as well as conducting individual counseling sessions.
Caring for people is Mary's main source of energy and life-giving force. Her humor helps to diffuse stressful moments. Mary’s strong belief in the hospice concept of care is easily recognized through her interactions with the patients, patients' family members, caregivers, volunteers, and those who are grieving.
